Kardinya Primary School recognises that Information Communication Technology (ICT) is an integral part of the teaching and learning program. ICT capability supports and enhances student learning across all areas of the curriculum. To achieve this, the school and the P & C have invested in a range of technologies so children are equipped to use ICT at school, home and the workplace in the future.
Every class at Kardinya PS has an interactive whiteboard which teachers use to support learning in their classrooms. Learning areas provide the content and contexts which allow students to develop and apply the knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions that comprise ICT capability.
In the digital age, students need to be flexible and creative problem solvers mand critical thinkers while working in a safe online environment. Education around Cyber safety is on-going. For more information click here to go to the Office of the eSafety Commissioner.
Teachers attend professional development and work together to promote sharing, investigating and creating with ICT in line with the Western Australian Curriculum which optimises student outcomes and prepares students to become active community members.
We want our students to access technology in a safe environment and we take this responsibility seriously. Education about online safety is a priority for students, staff and parents. We continue to build the skills in our staff and keep them as up to date as we can with current risks.
At Kardinya Primary School we have a small list of carefully selected applications (apps) and websites that students will be using to support and enhance their learning. These apps and websites have undergone rigorous risk assessment by the Department of Education and have been deemed safe for our students to use. Parents will be provided with a list of these apps and websites at the start of each school year.
We offer information sessions for parents to provide information about the ways they can help students become safe online when they are not on school grounds. Parents will be notified via Connect when sessions are available throughout 2025.
The youngest age requirement for a social network is 13 years of age, some are even older. Most social media sites set minimum age requirements. This is primarily for safety reasons as young children don’t understand the dangers of cyber predators, and because younger children have not yet developed good judgement to know what’s okay to post and what is not. They are also exposed to adult content which can be suggestive or inappropriate.
At Kardinya Primary School, students have access to school managed devices. These devices do not have any social network/ social media/ chat room-type apps installed, and access via websites is restricted.
Devices that are brought to school must not have the following apps (examples only as new social networking apps emerge all the time).
All students must sign our Internet and iPad usage agreement annually. If they are not meeting the requirements of this agreement their access to using a school device may be restricted for a period of time.
In 2021, the Department of Education created a policy to protect information shared with third party services. Parents and carers are asked to consent to the applications and websites we use at Kardinya Primary School which collect student information.
The form outlines the data recorded and where it is stored for each of the applications and websites that require a student account.
All applications and website listed in the form have been assessed by the Department of Education and are approved for use in schools. This is a whole school form, therefore your child may not use all listed applications now but may do so in the future.
