To access the full curriculum, and give your child the best chance of success, the school aims to support and encourage children to set an attendance goal that is as close to 100% as possible.
The likelihood of learning success is strongly linked to regular attendance and engagement in educational programs. Students who do not attend regularly risk poor academic achievement and a greater risk of social disadvantage.
The below shows how the amount of time missed in a year, and if maintained across their schooling can impact on the future of your child.
Put another way, if a child misses:
Students who arrive late to school are also impacting their learning.
Parents have the responsibility to inform the school if their child is absent and the reason for this absence. Parents/Carers are asked to inform the school on the first day of any absence by giving a reason for the absence and a likely date of return.
There are 5 ways to contact the school regarding your child’s absence.
Preferred ways of communicating an absence:
It is assumed that students who are away from school due to illness are too sick to complete work. In the event they are required to isolate due to a contagious disease (eg COVID-19, Chicken Pox) but are well enough to complete work, please contact your classroom teacher.
We discourage parents from taking children out of school during term time for family holidays. If you wish to take your child out of school for a holiday during term time (for 3 or more days), you must first make an application to the Principal.
Please email the school office at Kardinya.PS@education.wa.edu.au
School work for this time will not be provided but we would strongly promote keeping a journal, either in paper or digitally, plenty of reading books and practice of basic number facts, addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc and practice with currency.
Please remember that every day away from learning programs can impact on your child’s achievement and progress.
School doors open at 8:35am and school starts at 8:45am. Students who arrive after the 8:45am siren are marked as arriving late.
Students are required to check in at the front office if they arrive late. Students will receive a yellow late card which must be handed to the classroom teacher.
Our goal is to ensure every student in Western Australia has the opportunity to gain an education and achieve their full potential. Attending school is a critical foundation for unlocking this opportunity. We know that every day at school contributes to learning, which leads to better engagement and higher academic achievement. This sets students up for life and creates better social and economic outcomes for Western Australian families and communities. With different messages around school absences, it can be hard to decide what warrants time off school and what doesn’t, below are documents to help your family clarify what is appropriate.
